On February 21, 2017, St. Regis Hotels & Resorts today announced the highly anticipated opening of the first of three new hotels in Australia. Marriott International has announced that all three new hotel openings across Australia will make their Asia-Pacific debut in 2021. Chancheng China Marriott Hotel, the world's first hotel in China, will open on March 1, 2018 in Beijing, China. On February 20, 2016, Marriott International announced the first ever hotel opening in the United States at a press conference in Times Square, New York City, announcing two hotels at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Washington, D.C. and the Hilton Garden Inn & Suites in Las Vegas.
Greater China has led the global recovery so far, and according to Marriott, China will dominate its opening date until 2021. The Company expects to celebrate the opening of the Chancheng China Marriott Hotel, the world's first hotel in China, in Beijing on March 1, 2018, and to celebrate its first hotel opening in the United States on April 2, 2017 in New York City.
The St. Regis brand also expects to present the St. Regis Shanghai Jing in 2018, further consolidating its position as the world's largest hotel brand in China. The St Regis brand is expected to make its debut at the St Regis Beijing Jing on March 1, 2019, cementing its place as one of the country's largest hotels.
Melbourne will also be cut off from the St. Regis Beijing Jing brand properties in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. The JW Marriott brand is also set to be expanded to the South Korean island of Jeju, where the first hotel is due to open in 2018. To further expand Marriott's presence in this stunning holiday destination, the company is also expected to bring its second largest hotel in the world, a 1,000-room hotel with a total of 4,500 rooms and a planned 2019 opening, to the resorts and expand its presence in other countries. In addition, J W Marriott is not only expanding its presence at this stunning resort and spa destination in South Carolina, but is also planning to bring its third largest hotel project in North America, an 8,200-bedroom hotel and an additional 2,800 rooms, to South Korea's Jeju Island, where it is scheduled to open in 2017. Marriott will continue to expand its presence in this majestic and stunning South African resort and spa. New York, New Jersey and New Hampshire-based jw Marriott hotels will be launching their first properties in Japan, which will coincide with the planned openings of the St. Regis Hotel in Tokyo, Tokyo and Seoul.
